Metro Rapid Expansion

The overwhelming success and popularity of the MTA's two Metro Rapid demonstration lines on Wilshire and Ventura Boulevards led the agency to approve, in 2002, a 26-line expansion of the system. The MTA will launch two new lines every six months for five years. Suisman Urban Design, which created the original graphic and architectural design for the system, was asked to upgrade the station canopy prototype to provide greater roof coverage and to integrate photovoltaic panels.
