In the fall of 2002, Doug Suisman was invited to participate in a 5-day planning and design workshop organized by the Civic Alliance to Rebuild Downtown New York. The Alliance is a coalition of more than 80 groups convened to provide a civic voice in rebuilding plans in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks. Suisman co-chaired the team focused on "Livable Community", emphasizing new housing, neighborhoods, transit, pedestrian facilities, and mixed use development.
