A Brief History of the Firm

| Suisman Urban Design began in 1990 as an experiment. Doug Suisman, then teaching architecture at Berkeley, believed there was a need for a new kind of design practice whose focus would be the improvement of public space- downtowns, public buildings, streets, boulevards, parks, plazas, pedestrian networks, and transit facilities. The firm would integrate many of the needed disciplines- urban history and planning, architecture, landscape and graphic design, community outreach- under the umbrella of "urban design." |
